I saw this on a more general woodworking site and thought I'd pass this on... This Closeout Books website has a nice selection of the Taunton series books, most for half or less of the retail price. Lots of good general woodworking books, some of which I have and paid full price for. Sharpening, workbenches, toolboxes, finishing, handplanes, various types of furniture building, joinery, etc... I just ordered several books on bath/kitchen renovations. Also, if you enter the coupon code "castle" with the coupon password "closeoutbooks" you'll get $5 off if you buy at least $35 worth. I have no affiliation with the website, just thought the prices were good, and I've liked the Taunton books that I've bought so far. |

Jon, thanks. Thats a great place to keep an eye on. Another good place to check out is Powell's. Its a bookstore in Portland OR. They have aisles and aisles of books. It is easily a day trip in and of itself. BUT... they also sell on line and you can request books. If you are looking for something that they don't have, in print or out of print, you can put the book on your list of "Notify me if it becomes available" titles. I have scored some really obsure books there. Granted one took several years to surface, but it has been out of print for about 100 years. www.powells.com If you are lucky and have a Half Price Books in your neighborhood, check them out. I scored 15 old ShopNotes for $1 a piece. And depending on the staff, they will even call you if they get something in that they know you want. |

I've had great luck buying used books at half.com. The prices are generally very good, and if no one is listing the book you want, you can add it to a "wish list" and you'll get an email when one is listed. Phil |

I just did a little bit of comparison, this place actually has a presence on half.com, too, and they were the lowest price on the few titles I checked (and prices were the same for half.com or direct from their website). Some sample titles that I've heard recommended quite often here and at mimf over the years: The Handplane Book - $13.99 (list 34.95) Sharpening - $14.99 (list 39.95) |
